About the beer

An American Pale Ale built on British malt for biscuit notes with U.S. & NZ hops for a full floral flavour and aroma. 

Co-founders Fredrik, Andreas and Steve brewed mainly this style when home brewing in their shared house. It was only fitting that this and Larger be the beers that we launched 40FT with. The Ä is a tip of the cap to our founding Swedish brothers Fredrik & Andreas.

Although APA’s are known mainly for the hops, we wanted to celebrate our malt also. We use premium British malts from Simpsons Malt and the backbone of this beer is Golden Promise but we use Cara malt for a golden hue and rye for its biscuit quality. The hops in this beer have varied mainly due to hop supply. We started with Mosaic as the dominant hop but moved to Rakau when that supply ran short. We now use both of these alongside Sovereign, Target and Cascade which are all added in the boil, whirlpool and dry hop for full hop aroma and finish. At 4.1% we want this beer to be a full flavoured sessionable APA.

About the Brewery

40ft brewery is a micro brewery built out of second hand shipping containers in a repurposed car park in Dalston, Hackney. We opened in 2015 with just two 20 foot shipping containers, one served as a brew house and the other as maturation room. We have grown organically since then adding shipping containers like large heavy legos pieces each time. We are now 150ft with more space for brewing and a dedicated taproom.
 
We are a neighbourhood brewery sending out fresh beer each week to the bars, restaurants and pubs that we serve in our community. Our space is limited so our focus is on quality and fresh, delicious beer. 
 
The brewery was founded by four friends; three homebrewers Andreas Pettersson,  Fredrick Pettersson and Steve Ryan and braumaster Ben Ott. We are still independently owned and currently employ two full time brewers and two more people in part time roles.
